# Blockquotes

## Description

Blockquote elements represent quoted text or content from another source. They use the blockquote node in ADF and support nested content including paragraphs, lists, and other formatting. Blockquotes can contain multiple paragraphs and complex nested structures.

## .md markdown syntax

### Standard Blockquote Syntax

```markdown
> This is a simple blockquote.
```

### Multi-line Blockquotes

```markdown
> This is the first line of the blockquote.
> This is the second line of the blockquote.
> This is the third line of the blockquote.
```

### Multi-paragraph Blockquotes

```markdown
> First paragraph of the blockquote.
>
> Second paragraph of the blockquote.
```

### Nested Blockquotes

```markdown
> This is a blockquote.
>
> > This is a nested blockquote inside the first one.
>
> Back to the first level blockquote.
```

### Blockquotes with Custom Attributes

```markdown
<!-- adf:blockquote backgroundColor="#f6f8fa" borderColor="#d1d5db" -->
> Customized blockquote with styling attributes.
```

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://jeromeerasmus.gitbook.io/extended-markdown-adf-parser/block-elements/element-specifications-blockquotes.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
